The Dead Horse

Water-based ink and conté crayon, 21.25″ x 29″

This horse is waiting for restoration at the Running Horse Studio Collection in Irwindale, CA. An initial drawing was made on a clear sheet of acrylic, from which I created an additive monoprint. The second, ghost print taken from the same matrix was extremely light and I was not pleased with all aspects of the drawing. I took the ghost print back to the warehouse and drew into it with water-based materials, making corrections. It produced the depth I sought and a surprising richness of surface.

The character that resonates from the horse and surroundings is stunning. Fascinating process to get to this end result! The composition is wonderful too.
